That much I’ve figured out.
I think I have it now. In essence, they’re mixed families thrown together because of JD and the events leading up to it. You have adults taking care of children that aren’t their own.
Sarah and Cameron = one mother and cyborg adopted daughter combo
David, Anne, and Lauren = another non-biologically related family who must be protected because…
Lauren and Anne help raise Derek just as…
Derek and Jesse help raise Riley…the Riley that Jesse knows but not Derek because they come from different time lines.
