So you’re anxiously awaiting this coming week’s big new episode, but you’re wondering: what exactly does the title, Strange Things Happen at the One-Two Point, mean?

Hey, don’t rely on us! Do a little research! Start by googling Go.

You’ll quickly learn that “Go is a strategic board game for two players. Go originated in China, where it has been played for more than 2500 years and is noted for being rich in strategic complexity despite its simple rules. It is played by two players who alternately place black and white stones on the vacant intersections of a grid of 19×19 lines. The object of the game is to control a larger part of the board than the opponent. To achieve this, players strive to place their stones in such a way that they cannot be captured, while mapping out territories the opponent cannot invade without being captured.”

The rest is up to you, friends…

  1. Yeah - I did some research on this. The episode title refers to a Go proverb related to life and death tactics.

My limited understanding is that the one-two point is a very strategic position to occupy because it’s difficult to attack.

  2. Quick, to the Mystery Machine! :)

  3. I remember from my AI class last year that unlike chess, Go is a game where computers are completely outmatched by humans. I believe the reason is the sheer number of possible outcomes of each move the computer would have to keep track of. So if there’s a computer that can play Go would be a Very Big Deal indeed.

  4. I did my research I am intrested in what to be revealed :)

  5. well this was an interesting find:

Funny to find the exact title… Re the contents: Logan pretty much sums it up above. I found some of the language interesting/ominous though:

“The 2-1 point is a critical point in many life and death problems. The difference between living or dying locally is at least 20 points. It is something that cannot be taken easily. That’s the difference between winning and losing, or losing and losing badly.”

  6. Yea I also read that the principals of heruistic is used which when used by AI when no solutiopn is available
“The common usage in computing, especially artificial intelligence, is as a noun meaning a technique to be tried by a program when a direct definitive algorithm or exact solution is not available. ”

heruistic means serving to guide, discover, or reveal

  7. Okay - I think I figured part of it out.

Dr. Sherman IS the one-two point in this game of GO between the Connors and SkyNet. Whichever team manages to control Dr. Sherman will have a huge strategic advantage in the battle for the future. He can be instrumental in helping Weaver build her supercomputer, or he can help the Connors overcome the psychological impediments, or both.

This explains why both the Resistance and SkyNet have identified Dr. Sherman as critical to the future. SkyNet sent a terminator to take over as Boyd Sherman’s office assistant, and General Connor sends a resistance fighter back to warn the Connors that Dr. Sherman is the one-two point; hence the significance of the symbol beside his name on the wall.

There might be additional symbolism behind the 3 dots, but I think this is one of them.

  8. Corey (Thecolours)

Logan, that’s the best theory I’ve read anywhere on the net. Let’s see if it turns out to be true.

  9. If the glimpse of future war contained in Dungeons and Dragons is a continuing theme in the series, Go is a far better challenge for Skynet to master than chess. The CIR model (capture/infest/release) offers a level of control that simple attrition cannot provide. Both Cameron and Derek have been united in a way that neither fully understands (Derek-I know you-Cameron-I know you, too–a intense exchange over pancakes from Demon Hand.) The axe that was left for the surviving members of the patrol in the interregation house was immediately recognized by Derek as part of the game. “Its all games.” Will a future episode feature the turning of the terminator, Cameron. We can only wait and hope.

  10. I think Dr. Sherman is going to teach Project Babylon, the infant Skynet, to cross against the light. Without that concept, its development can never master GO, the chess of time travel, where the number of posible games exceeds the number of atoms in the known universe.
