Notes from The Con - “Dollhouse” Edition

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

As EW’s Popwatch notes, Mr. Whedon brings the funny, Eliza and Tahmoh bring the sexy:

After Penikett explained to one questioner that there would be no shooting conflict between Battlestar and Dollhouse because he’d been written out of the Sci-Fi Channel series, Dushku interjected, “Thank you, Battlestar Galactica! You are a strapping and extraordinary man.” And that left Whedon to joke sheepishly, “I’ll just be here,” as Dushku scooted her chair closer to Penikett. The duo seemed fully at ease with each other, whispering and joking throughout the session. At one point, Whedon half-heartedly lamented his third-wheel status, joking, “This is like bringing your banjo onstage after the Stones play.”

The Chicago Tribune didn’t waste any time and went straight to a network angle:

MR: I have to ask the Fox question.
JW: Yes, Eliza is a fox.

The Trib also got Joss talking about our favorite kind of relationships, the twisted kind:

MR: Will there be unrequited love, frustration, the full gamut of Joss Whedon relationships?
JW: Oh yes. Actually one, no, two of the most twisted relationships I’ve ever come up with. I’m so excited about the Dollhouse and the ensemble of the show.

Newsarama caught Whedon reassuring the sci-fi nerds:

Whedon defended his upcoming series saying there would be no vampires, no space ships, no werewolves, it’s just people. But, “I hope most people know that everything I do is just people.” This was met with applause from the fans in attendance. He followed that up by saying, “Believe me when I say it’s going to be really exciting.”

And Tahmoh (understandably) chokes in the face of Eliza’s hotness:

No Longer Just Davey

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

We knew something was up when all the women at Fox were lingering around the casting room. “Hey, that one looks like James Franco…”

It was his little brother. Dave Franco has been cast as a series regular in Do Not Disturb as “Gus,” a roadie for a rock band who gets deserted at the hotel.

You may remember him from this seminar:

Notes from The Con - “24″ Edition

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Tony Almeida’s back! IGN feels the writers’ love:

Executive Producer Howard Gordon joked that when it comes to Tony, “It could very well be a measure of our desperation that he’s back.” Gordon then noted, “This is not the first time he’s come back from the dead. Carlos (Bernard) has been dead on the page, I think, four times. He got shot in the neck – we never had any intention of him recovering, but miraculously, he did. We love his character.”

Zap2it feels Kiefer’s love:

Sutherland added, “The first scene I did with Carlos, I got to shoot at him and tackle him. I loved it. It was awesome.”

Cause you know you want to see Carlos:

Ew.com’s PopWatch knows that me and Kiefer agree on something:

And his favorite moment during the show’s multi-year run? “When I chopped that guy’s head off in season two,” admitted Sutherland.

What about that 24:Exile movie? BuddyTV’s got the deets:

With the season postponed because of the writers’ strike, when it was over Kiefer and Howard Gordon discussed something they could do for the fans in the interim. What originally was an idea for a 7-10 minute prequel turned into 2 hours at the urging of the network.

Variety encapsulates my giddyness from the whole weekend:

The panel’s best moment may have come when a young man, Cameron, asked Sutherland about his pervasive use of the phrase “Damn it!” and asked Kiefer to give him a “Damn it, Cameron!” Sutherland turned around and, in classic Bauer bravura, yelled “DAMN IT, CAMERON!” The crowd erupted in cheers. It’s gonna be good to have Jack Bauer back.

Here is the gloriousness:

And E!Online gives thanks where thanks are most definitely due:

God bless you, Kiefer Sutherland. Despite being one of the baddest mother, um, the small screen has ever seen, and saving the world on a daily basis, you remain, so far, the most gracious of all panelists at Comic-Con 2008.

At the end of the 24 panel session with fans at today’s Comic-Con, Kiefer made a point to give a huge heartfelt thank-you to the fans, then stood up and gave us all a standing ovation, followed by the rest of the panelists.

Check it on the you:

Technically, it’s a spin-off of this very own Future on Fox site. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles has its own behind-the-scenes blog, and you need to visit it now.

There are already posts from writers and heads-up about an easter egg in an upcoming episode.

Have direct contact with the writers, stars and crew of the show. No network middle man!

Notes from The Con - MacFarlane Edition

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Buddy TV has FG spoilers:

Because any adventure with Brian and Stewie is always immensely popular, the duo will also be transported back to 1939 Poland for an episode. Let the inappropriate Nazi jokes commence!

TV Squad has pix as well as these tidbits:

Upcoming episodes will feature: A new dog in the Griffin house that is always happy, which will make Brian leave•¦ a takeoff on the ‘Sliders’ premise with Stewie and Brian traveling to different parallel universes.

James Woods will be returning for Family Guy sometime this season.

EW.com•s PopWatch has scoop on Cleveland:

Leaving the series, however, is (Mike) Henry’s Cleveland, who moves to his hometown of Stoolbend, Va., to reconnect with his high-school sweetheart to, as Henry put it, “form a Black Brady Bunch.” MacFarlane noted that he’ll also have a voice role in that series, as the father in a bear family that lives on Cleveland’s street. What does the bear sound like? Polish (we think).

Fox is Fertile Ground

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Congratulations to 24’s Mary Lynn Rajskub on the birth of her first child — a boy named Valentine Anthony.

And congrats to Do Not Disturb’s Jerry O’Connell, who announced that his wife is expecting twins.

Notes from The Con - “Bones” Edition

Monday, July 28th, 2008

The infamous Comic-Con has Con-Cluded. And those fanboys and fangirls wore us out. Let’s see if we can sum it up show-by-show, m’kay?

The ears of the Fox Standards & Practices team pricked up all the way in Los Angeles when Bones creator and EP Hart Hanson said at the panel: “This year, Booth and Brennan will be in bed together naked. That’s all I can say about that.”

EW.com’s PopWatch has more scoop from the Bones panel as well as a video interview with Boreanaz.

Zap2it revealed the best part from the panel:

What we do know is that Boreanaz likes outstanding sex. (But hates standing sets, the actual topic and just one thing he humorously misheard.)

While TV Squad kept the theme going:

When asked how Bones and Booth would keep their relation fresh when (not if) they consummated their relationship, Boreanaz said that the two were already married… they just haven’t consummated their relationship yet.

It All Comes Down to Leather

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Eliza Dushku knows the real reason Joss went back to the drawing board to shoot a new Dollhouse pilot (from zap2it):

“And I, for some reason, did not get to wear my leather pants in the first episode, and that was kind of a problem… that was like a deal breaker. We have leather pants for me in the next one.”

We’re Glee-ful to Get This

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

HR has the sheet music:

“Nip/Tuck” creator Ryan Murphy is getting into the “American Idol” spirit with “Glee,” a hourlong comedy set in the cutthroat world of high school glee clubs.

Will is a Spanish teacher at an Ohio high school who has the daunting task of taking over the school’s glee club — the worst in the country — which has become a haven for outcasts. With help from Will and others, the kids build their confidence and gradually transform into winners.

Each episode will feature four musical numbers.
