Fringe season opener will break your heart, say producers & Josh Jackson. End of that episode should “shock you into paying attention”

“We never inteded to reveal the parallel universe until the end of season 3″ says #Fringe creator Alex Kurtzman.

John Noble on Walter Bishop: “It’s the most enjoyable character I’ve played in my life.”

Nimoy will be on #Fringe “As much as he wants” according to the show runners. Already filmed one ep.

Pinkner: “We’re only telling a story about 2 universes. Here and what we’re calling ‘over there.’” It’s not a time travel tale.

TV Guide fills you in on what reporters received in their hotel rooms:

As if to underscore that point, journalists attending this week’s fall TV previews, used to seeing a complimentary USA Today outside their hotel-room door, instead received a copy of the fictional, though familiar-looking New York News Thursday morning.

Fans of the show recognized the paper, which made a telling cameo in the season finale. Among the reality-warping front-page headlines: “Obamas Set to Move Into New White House,” “Former Pres. Kennedy to Address UN” and “Stock Markets Remain Closed: 21 Days and Counting…” Inside, other stories reveal that, “over there,” John Lennon is still alive, Guns N’ Roses released Chinese Democracy in 2000 and Emeril Lagasse is apparently the mayor of New Orleans. And with a wink at series creator J.J. Abrams, Star Trek topped the box office in both realities.

E!Online has the nitty gritty details:

• Fringe fans, brace yourself for the launch of the new season on Sept. 17, because something heartrending happens with Charlie. According to exec producer J.H. Wyman, “That is going to be a continuing storyline throughout the season. It should thrill. Nobody ever really disappears, and they could come back at any time. There is a parallel universe. Maybe [Charlie] will show up [there]. I think a lot of the answers you’re looking for will be clear in [episodes] two and three and four. You’ll really enjoy it.”

• Science be damned, there are only two universes in Fringe, one of which the producers refer to as “over there.”

• Will there be any romance coming for Olivia and Peter? Per show runner Jeff Pinkner, “As long as the emotion is true, we’re open to anything.”

• Anna Torv had to eat pureed worms on the set yesterday. Isn’t it glam being an actress?

DVR Playground has two “awwww” moments:

2:40PM: The panel tip-toes around the crazy jaw-dropping twist that befalls a series regular in the closing scene of the second season premiere. So do we in a post from earlier today.

2:48PM: Joshua Jackson + John Noble = Real-life friends. Adorable.

iF Magazine on how much Season 2 will be serialized vs. standalones:

“As we went along, we got a balance on our characters and plots and making sure our plots were character centric,” says Pinkner. “We learned how to write for these actors over time. We learned this on ALIAS and LOST – the shows that
are really about characters and the actors playing them meld a little more.”

LA Times on the return of William Bell:

Filming of that episode happened in Vancouver in temperatures that were well above 100 degrees, but Nimoy, who is most famous as Mr. Spock on “Star Trek,” didn’t seem bothered by the intense heat.

Said (EP Jeff) Pinkner, “He was doing pages and pages of dialogue, and he handled it like a pro.” Added co-star Joshua Jackson, “His wife said he practices biofeedback, so he knows how to control his body temperature.”

Zap2it does a minute-by-minute recap of the panel:

4:19- A question about the Peter/Olivia relationship is asked and John says, “I think I should be asked that question as the father.” He thinks that all romance should be outlawed in the lab, meaning no relationship between Peter/Olivia, Peter/Astrid or Peter/Gene. Yes, the cow. Somehow I don’t see the show ever going in that direction.

EW covers what the alternative reality means for our beloved characters:

(R)umors of the demise of Charlie Francis (Kirk Acevedo) were “entirely premature,” Pinkner said, so don’t believe what the actor’s Facebook page says; the alternate reality introduced in the season finale last spring will allow return engagements for characters previously thought dead (we’ll see you soon Jared, aka David Robert Jones!). And Leonard Nimoy will be back in the season two opener to play Massive Dynamics’ mysterious CEO William Bell, a bit of news that elicited a huge roar from the crowd who packed one of Comic-Con’s largest venues.
