I was just wondering who had the idea of using The Black Angels song in episode 2. They are an amazing band and this is a very cool show, so I like seeing them together. Not to mention the joy in going “Holy F***, It’s The Black Angels!!!” keep on groovin’ on………..
Here are a few observations regarding Fringe…the show is supposed to be based in Massachusetts, so please pronounce the town names correctly.
In the second episode the assistant agent pronounced Dighton (Di ton). It is pronounced (DY ton). In addtion, Stoughton is not near the water, it does not have a bridge and it’s not near Dighton.
Are numbers going to once again play a large role in this Abrams’ show? I noticed that different numbers have come up throughout, is there going to be a pattern, and if so what will they mean?
I want so much to like this show but I’m already very leery. Apparently the premise here is “X-files meets John Doe”. OK, fine. But ALREADY the factors that sunk Firefly AND John Doe AND Tru Calling are creeping in. Too many twists, too many layers, too many unnecessary details that detract from just enjoying the show. ALREADY we’re having to wonder about the red haired gal’s real role, Walter’s allusion to Peter’s mysterious birth, whether John is alive and what side he’s on and his hint about why Anna was chosen for the task force. It’s confusing, distracting and detracting.
I adore the characters. Each is performing wonderfully and balancing each other perfectly. But the technical stuff is a tad worrying. Like why the accelerated pregnancy didn’t kill the ‘mother’ at about 10 minutes into the pregnancy because of the draw on her metabolism. Like how Walter is conversant with the advances in DNA typing after 17 years in a rubber room. Like how the victim’s optic nerve recorded an image of a bridge when she’d been strapped in, staring at the ceiling, for at least half an hour prior to death. Come on! I understand this is to be a romp; a suspension of belief. But must it also be a suspension of intellect while wading through tedious, arcane plot twists that will exhaust and irritate viewers after only a few weeks?
Could we please just get a smart, good quality story, with great actors that challenge the material and make us think? Apparently not.
Finally a show with intrigue, mystery and intellect with a splash of humor rolled into one. When I saw the plane scene on the trailer I was afraid this would be a “Lost” remake, wow was I mistaken. The only similarity is I can’t wait for the next episode so I can watch these fabulous characters evolve. The visual effects are also stunning. I just love the 3D titles! I don’t care if the towns aren’t pronounced correctly or the so called “technical” aspects fall short of reality. I’m not looking for a reality show. I just want to be entertained and all I can say is J.J. has done it agian!
PS. The symbols are very intriguing. I’m hoping at some point we’ll be clued in as to their meaning
The Pilot aired in Australia on the evening of Wednesday 17 September. The performances of cast members was excellent, the storyline was strong. Looking forward to ‘The Same Old Story’ Congrats to JJ, Robert et al
I really enjoy this show. I don;t really care is the science isnt up to snuff but its decent enough to get you wondering whats going on. And who doesnt enjoy the walterisms. “I just pissed myself”. the eye candy isnt bad either.
In reply to MATandT & Monica, do you really blieve that a viewer from europe or anywhere else for that matter gives a f*** if theres a bridge in Stoughton!! or how DY-ton is pronounced? Give us a break and in reply to FingersCrossed, well, I have mine crossed that you get a life!!!!!! UNbelievable!!
I just wanted to say that I am really enjoying the show so far! I was a Dawson’s Creek fan and I’m so happy to see Joshua back!! I was also an X-Files fan and am glad to see some elements of that back as well, all wrapped in a whole new package!! I look forward to watching what they come up with next. I also REALLY LOVE the small commercial breaks!! That is so fantastic!! I am really glad to hear that they don’t plan on having as many intertwined and continuing plot lines as LOST. I love LOST and watch it faithfully, but have to say that it can be EXHAUSTING trying to keep up with all the twists and turns that come along with it. I always have to go on the message boards and see what people are talking about to see if I missed anything! I feel like I can just watch this show for the sake of enjoying the show, not of trying to figure out all the “secret codes” and stuff. Keep up the great work!
I absolutely love Fringe. I’m always captivated when the government/corporate relationship is explored. Mix that with science, high IQ’s, plenty of money, not enough accountabliity and a variety of alternative motives and you’ve got one scary program that entertains all the senses. Keep going, I’ll keep watching.
I agree with Leslie. What stick-in-the-mud whiners. Don’t be so critical.
The show is great -kind of a new rendition of the X-files, which I also loved. With regard to at least one of the commentators -there is no need to be obnoxious. I would agree with Fingercrossed -if you think a little about it, the storylines or the science is a bit of a stretch…esp. with regard to someone coming from 17 years of practical hibernation and diving back into science and using modern technology. Nonetheless, this is a fun show to watch.
I don’t think they have to film here or that the buildings have to be accurate, but for some sense of believability, they ought not change major landmarks. That’s all I’m saying. I am fully prepared to suspend disbelief with regards to the storyline but COME ON.
It’s call research. Lots of writers do it everyday. The blatant change distracted me from the story and I’m losing interest in the show, despite it being a genre I adore.
Lose the blatant distractions and add some sense of appropriate geography, please. I am watching one more episode, and if it continues, well, I’m done.
I’m sure Fox doesn’t care that they’re losing a viewer, but I thought I’d say so anyway.
To the Mass people- thousands of people in real life pronounce Oregon wrong, but life goes on.And Di-ton looks like it sounds the same as DY-ton to me.Di and Dy start out the same to me. And people who dont live in Oregon dont call it OreGon. But it’s TV land and not a reality show.
And do you want to know the red haired woman’s role already. And what all the numbers mean by Season2 or 3. In Alias,Sydney didnt know the guy she worked with was her father for several episodes.Arent secrets, and giving us just enough little pieces of info the way to keep you thinking and checking back next time.Actually in Alias we didnt know her real mother and father until (dont write nasty notes because its been awhile)season 3or 4.
So Matt and Monica-lighten up with the small stuff. That show that was on with Patricia Arquette who had premonitions-if anyone believes that is Arizona than I ‘ve got a few bridges I’d like to sell you, but I didnt dwell on it and rather focused on the story, it’s TV land.
And fingerscrossed,-do you really want episode 4 to tell you who the red haired lady is; what is in Peter’s medical history, if Scott is living in some town in Mass that nobody can pronounce and why Olivia was choosen for the task force, I think you are asking a bit much-Episode 5-Season Finale! if you want the whole story, see if you can get the manuscript . Dont you want to enjoy story, trying to guess or have fun with where JJ will go next. That to me, is what he does best, keeps you guessing and when you think you figured something out- a new twist. And Walter and Walterisms are great. He has a genius IQ, and he worked on that project for years, and the pituitary has the same hormones effecting growth.Like riding a bike.
Give it a chance, no show-even CSI ,Lost,Alias or pick any (no reality) tv show- are remotely accurate. They all take very exaggerated liberties with science and tech but thats why we watch-to escape and enjoy those minds who can come up with the fun tech gadgets that entertain us. If you dont like this type of entertainment, watch the history channel for reality.
And more Walterisms-”it was just a squirt”! I truly hope the show gets a chance to get up and running-I thought Lost was a little slow, and then all of a sudden I was hooked! Thanks guys and I dont mean to offend anyone, I was just trying to put some things in a different light and maybe people would think about the long term of the show-I hate when they just stop a show mid-season and you’re left handing…….forever!
Mass Facts
There is no bridge in Stoughton, Ma
Stoughton and Dighton are not located near one another.
Also the town of Ditton is actually Dighton, MA

An instant masterpiece in my eyes great work. I have been waiting for another excellent show and I think I have found it in Fringe.
