About the pilot? Well, we’ve got exec producers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman ready to answer them in a podcast!
Here’s what I want to know:
- Who is Dr. William Bell?
- What are those symbols that show up before they go to commercial?
But I’ll leave it to you guys to submit if you have the same issues. So post yours in the comments section. If the guys select them, then your name and question will be in the podcast.
Who’s decision was it to add (1) the “I recorded the conversation” line to the hospital interrogation near the end, and (2) the new interrogation scene with Peter and the mug? Neither of these were in the earlier leaked version of the pilot and some of us argue they were not needed.
(Personally, I can live more with 2 than I can with 1, because the addition of that line of dialogue robbed from Olivia’s character a moment in which she was shown to be smart enough to know what was being said without it actually being explicitly stated.)
What actor is going to be playing Willam Bell? I am assuming its a relatively reoccurring role. What episode will be his 1st appearnce?
ohhhhh and i know you have already thought about an episode where Big Eddie makes an apperance, I just hope its good segway into the epsiode> Maybe a flash back? Nahh thats too “lost”. More like an episode where Josh has to balance the case they’re working on & and dealing with his debt he owes. That could be part of his ongoing character make-up …gambler( owes money), take chances, risky(interogation scene) despite his IQ he still has flaws. Lots to work with beside the obvious father & son catching up dynamic.
Who decided to have the “location title cards” be embedded into the scenery as 3D graphics?
Very cool and effective. I especially love it when the camera moves through the letters with that “whoosh” sound. Very cool.
The 3-d title overs are hurl-worthy. Distracting and unnecessary and I bet they wear out their welcome with audiences within four episodes.
Despite being a fan of ‘Lost’, I think the intense, rising noise before the commercial breaks should be limited to the pilot, as well as the location title cards. I think no one on the writing staff knows why Joshua Jackson’s character exists yet, and I hope they figure it out before the show gets cancelled. I think the female lead needs to be a stronger character, because right now I could care less about her. The line about Josh being “the only one who speaks Walter” would have been more valuable if someone referred to Walter as being crazy after the first act. Michael Emerson would have made a better “Broyles”, but I understand the impracticality of featuring him on another JJ Abrams show, so I can’t figure out why they’d cast another “Lost” actor, especially considering his significance on the upcoming season.
While I feel many viewers will have found flaws with the pilot (including terrible pacing and a lack of any realism depicting the way government agencies function), I think the show has a great premise and could easily build a substantial fan base. There are talented actors, and talented writers, and it just seems like someone skipped the part where they actually watch the show and make notes on what to fix before it airs.
Sorry there’s no question in there, I just hope the right person might see this and do something about it, because the entire timing I was watching the show, I was wishing I was watching a better version of it.
Hi There,
I was curious about two things…
1) How paranormal or supernatural of cases will the “Fringe” team be investigating in future episodes? Will there ever be cases involving possible creatures, aliens, demons, ghosts/poltergeists, possession etc. however with an obvious more scientific/reality-grounded spin on them?
2) In all honesty, is there anything about the pilot that has disappointed you or you wish you could go back and retool differently?
Is this going to be the plot theory blog? I hope so. If so, here goes:
The leaf on the hand print entry control pad in the last scene of the premier is a “Dutch Elm” leaf, hinting that the sub plot will be about the Dutch “hand” in all of the sinister sub plots throughout the episodes. The Dutch control 90% of the world’s oil supply, and 40% of the world’s corporations. This show will play on that fact, and what the Dutch plan for ultimate world domination is. You can read all about it in my novella, King of the Cross, posted on my blog at http://www.richmanscoffin.com/pblog
The double (or was it triple?) premiere did not fare well with me because the characters, plot, effects, and production values were memorable to the point of me being able to accurately remember what would happen and when from the first viewing some months ago. The first re-premiere also was in competition with some other interesting things that were new. I liked Fringe the first time but couldn’t muster interest in a complete repeat viewing of the pilot; although I would have readily watched a new episode. I wonder if any other prospective fans affected viewing shares for the same reasons?
What is the meaning of the heart shape in the first streetlight in the premiere? It wasn’t in the later scenes, the lights were normal. Is this going to be kind of esoteric plot device like Lost? I don’t want to have to pause and rewind each episode to find out what they really mean. It was enjoyable but the first episode reminded me of an old Night Stalker episode and I figured it out less than halfway through.
So far I will give it one more episode, if it is too predictiable I will just watch something else. Please, give us something new.
