Advertising Age may be an industry trade paper, but they give our friends at Fringe Television some nice props in this article about Fringe viral marketing efforts.

  1. I personally think that fbi agent is hideous. I had to put my hand over her face every time they showed her. Oterhwise the new xfiles seems to be choppy but probably will be a hit. I hope they rethink the main charector and put someone at least not hideous as the agent. This is only my opinion of that person, please show some maturity when responding.
    thanks

  2. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think she’s gorgeous, classy, sexy & I could watch her all day. She’s got a Cate Blanchett / Naomi Watts vibe going on (two other gorgeous, classy women). Anna Torv is going places. This is my opinion.

  3. Just occurred to me that Anna Torv, Cate Blanchett & Naomi Watts are all Australian girls. I don’t know what they’re feeding the girls “down under” (maybe all that bloody roo!) but it generates great results. Her performance is great & it’s her character that drives the show. A huge part of that is her look.

  4. ANOTHER WINNER FOR FOX!!!!

The agent may not be oozing with sex appeal but the longer you look at her, she;s got that X Factor!!!

  5. Fringe was a total disgrace………….
    Totally Suked!!!!!!!!

  6. cant spell : - ) but regardless

    Totally Sucked!!!!!!!!

  7. I really like this new show. John Noble is perfect as Dr. Bishop. I knew Anna Torv reminded me of someone but could not quite figure out who … yes, Cate Blanchett. Anna did a good job … especially the mindlink sequence.

Boy I hope this series survives … I wanted to watch it because John Noble was going to be a character in it … he is a great actor … can’t wait for Episode 2 …

  8. I thought the 1st episode of Fringe was FANTASTIC! I’m not sure why someone would make such a mean comment about the physical appearance of the FBI agent…people, it’s TV…it’s make believe and if I’m not mistaken, every person in the world does not look like Super Models…I’ll bet my bottom dollar that neither does the person who wrote such a ignorant comment…get a life!

  9. “Use some maturity when responding” Elvin?

Because it’s very mature to call another human being “hideous.”

    Nice.

  10. I think Fringe is a little bit better then the Sarah Conner Chronicles. Oh and the lead FBI agent is hotttt

  11. I thought the show was awsome !!! I was on the edge of my seat the whole show.
Can’t wait for the next episode.
FBI agent , Beautiful woman .

  12. Thought the show was one of the best have seen in a long time. I hope they have more like plot coming. Recommend this show to all my coworkers.

  13. Hey, I think the agent is great!
The one thing I have to complain about: this is obviously a high-end production, lots of money involved, big names… PLEASE get someone who can actually speak German the next time you wrap your main plot line around a flight from Germany. And I’m talking both about the actors who were obviously painfully trying to phonetically remember their lines (the pilot was the worst!), as well as the writers (”Dies ist mein Erstflug” - white technically correct no one would ever say that).
So I got more into it as I was watching, but I’m still shaking my head at the FCC: Everyone screams out aloud if they acidentally show a nipple on TV, but showing people with their faces melting off just after 8pm is OK? I thought I had to stop eating dinner. But that’s more of a society question…
Over all it seems like a great new show though! I guess I’ll have to watch the next episode, too….

  14. I hope John (is that his name - the “dead” boyfriend) is not really dead and is a permanent cast member. He is really hot. Where have I seen him before?

  15. Expected more….however, aside from uneven flow of the pilot and some terrible dialogue, show has some promise within its story line, and plenty opportunity to become a hit yet…for now….I give it C+…but will give it until 3rd episode to attract me to it or lose me forever….
As to characters….Joshua Jackson…although I dont dislike him, is far the worst character I’ve seen in awhile. Almost everyline is a smirk remark or a joke….and then randomly in the middle of the pilot he has a line about reading books to show how smart he is….pathetic. I think he got hosed by writers…
FBI agent/Cate Blanchet look-alike is raw…very unequal actress, but possesses enough grace to carry the role….
Like I said earlier, the plot far exceeds the talent on the show…..but we’ll see…..

  16. absolutely brilliant. will be supporting this show 2 the hilt 2 keep on air

  17. Any show that makes a scientist lay awake at night, asking himself how to get some of these ideas to work , is a show worth seeing.

side note: Fringe sciences are called toolbox sciences in the science community. Why? Cause they are applications of known theories. Like a hammer in a tool box.

  18. FOX has hit another home run! This is the best show they have put out since…. you guessed it 24!! I really hope this one sticks around. Being showed after House on Tuesdays, should keep the viewership up.

These last two years we are seeing more hot actresses out of Australia, Anna Torv and Yvonne Strahovski (Chuck)

  19. All in all not bad for the “Next-Files”. Yes to to the Cate Blanchett lookalike comments. Totally has the hook with what will be the conspiracy mythology: the govt (are they involved arent they?) & the the myserious coproration with I-Roberta leading the way. Good twist with the agent @ end. Chracters will be fleshed out more as we go along & will settle into their respective roles.

Best line of the night was “Excellent! Lets make some LSD!”

….one last note….is Jean going to be the “Freek Squad’s mascot????

  20. I have to say this show is totally awesome. I loved the concept and the story line of this first episode. If it does not get you thinking about the possibilities of science and technology then your brain is dead. I think this is a hit in the making for FOX.

I would say to all those Xfiles fans And I am one. LET IT GO. stop compairing it. Let it stand on it’s own and take it for what it is, please.. I am so tired of new shows coming out and firs thing people do is try to compair it to what was done before. Yes there are a lot of shows out there that are a bit of a hack. But his one has some killer potential to where they can go with the science and technology LET it go there on its own..

    Open minded !!

  21. What’s his name from Dawson’s freak has surely grown up!!! I have to admit that I was alittle more impressed with the show than I thought I would be. Unfortantly I was squaring it up with Lost so I was a bit disappointed with the plot..etc. But I do really like the fact that they didn’t stack the cast with a bunch of pretty boys and girls who are all plastic. They are using real people in a show, that quite possibly, shows what could happen when science is unregulated…(not sure that is spelled right) but anyways..two thumbs up for J.J Abrams and since Fox can’t do anything other than rip off other broadcasting network ideas…..they have finally come up with something that just may thrive on its own original way.

  22. Loved loved loved the show!!! I watched with my sister and we are already addicted! Anna Torv is gorgeous and fantastic in her role, and John Noble is phenomenal. And why the hate on Joshua Jackson? I am thrilled to see him back on tv–his smirk is part of his charm. ;) Pacey=RAWR!!! Can’t wait till next week! :)

  23. Fringe was ok. The first episode was mediocre at best. Fringe does have mass potential if the writers could just slow it down a bit. My favorite part was the opening sequence with the melted faces. That s*** was sick. All in all I’ll give it another week or two. We’ll see.

  24. does anyone think that they will link lost and fringe together? i personaly think that would be cool linking 2 shows together…….I think the island could be one of the experiments that these ppl are working on.

  25. I loved the show, It is alot like lost in the since that there are alot of missing information and like the Darwin Project, the symbols at the end of each commercial break will be a great mystery to figure out. Im so tired of the typical cop shows that take over prime time television. Finally a show with a real plot that can go in any direction. I look forward to future shows. Great job wrighters!!!!

  26. awesome show dam str8 anna torv is bangin and oozin with sex appeal

  27. What’s the deal with all the “sweetheart” stuff — and with the rift with the lead’s boss over the sexual misconduct issue? The story (so far) is intriguing. But the writers/creators seem to be trying to develop a post-PC masculinity in key male characters. They should keep in mind that there’s a fine line between a hard-shelled rogue with a conflicted inner moral compass — and — a complete ass that’s still a complete ass no matter how deep you dig. The “Mad Men-esque” macho talk, while having a place in a ’50s-’60s period piece, is coming off really forced and phony in this series set in the present. OR - maybe it’s just that the ex-Dawson sidekick dude doesn’t have enough rogue appeal to pull it off (with or without the Sonny Crockett stubble).

What IS working is the female lead (Anna Torv). She’s talented. Perfectly cast. And hot in ways Jessica Alba types can’t touch. ALSO - Lance Reddick is great (even if the aforementioned issue is a bit of a distraction.

    That’s my two-cents, ’sweethearts.’

  28. Oh how I was looking forward to this show but instead I’m on the web while it’s on. No wonder the networks are desparate. I think the acting is pretty terrible, the story line (especially for a pilot) an incomprehensible bore. Oh well, back to YouTube.

  29. this show totally sucked. terrible acting, yuk!

  30. My feelings only… I think the show is a realistic view of what really could happen, and possibly is, with out our knowing. These are the times when we all have to love eachother and help eachother if we melt down with some kind of biological infection. If I see you melting… I’ll be there for you……

  31. Can anyone tell me what John said as he was dying to Olivia after the car crash??????

  32. We were addicted right away!!! It is always good when a little humor is applied to a very tense situation. People who start trying to compare this with another show need to just sit back and enjoy what they are watching not think about what else could be on on another day/time/network. FOX has done it again!!! Can’t wait until next week.

  33. Awsome!! I’m hooked! I actually watched the pilot three times now and catch something new each time, there are easter eggs all over the place. I can’t wait too see what the baby looks like :O

  34. Wow. I had a friend record it for me because I was work. Man, I was into to this show from the first scene. I like the science-fi aspect. The possibilities are great. Let’s hope they can keep it up. I like the cast. I”ll keeping watching it and telling my friends to check it out.

  35. Great !….and look it’s not a reality show !!!!! maybe this will start a trend!

  36. I loved it….I look forward to seeing more.By the way what difference does it make what someone looks like,it’s about her acting skills.I thought she did a good job.

  37. You can definitely tell the creator of Alias had something to do with this show, and unfortunately that’s not a compliment. The concept is terriffic and very reminsent of the X-Files, but unfortunately andy comparison ends there. There is definitely a very unfortunate trend in Hollywood these days that caters to our ADD society. This show has no character development, and the rapid pace of the plot is beyond ridiculous. When John Noble’s character went from mental institution to back up and running in his lab that was left abandonded for 30 years in seemingly a day (at best?) just lost it for me. Its just ridiculous and silly.

  38. I thought the new show was a BIG hit! loved it…. and who cares about the agent. Joshua Jackson is HOT!

  39. I throughly enjoyed watching the show, although they were some plot development going on which made the story line slow, overall an impression that future episodes will be a success if written well/creatively. The aspects of the slow story-line in the first episode is the direct cause of the NOT overwhelming success; i believe this show has the potential of being GREAT with their innovative concepts combine a compelling story-line making for an entertaining show. heroes meets numbers kinda thing,

to reponse to the first comment by elvin i do think the anna torv was a great choice but if they could make her look a few years older her position and experience would be easier to digest, as far as hideous i don’t understand that

  40. Do you think you could have ripped off the XFiles any more. I’d rather watch re-runs of the original XFiles, than watch a poor imitation. Chris Carter they ain’t.

  41. ok for one think i love the x-files and now that they have like”improved” it with Fringe i am soo pysched i love the grotesqueness of it where their faces are melting off and i love how in both fringe and x-files use science to interpret whats happening……definitly a lasting series!!!! and i like the woman who plays in it i think she is very down -to -earth and classy:)!!

  42. It will be interesting to see what happens tonight. The first show was a good teaser. The ending was a little abrupt and seemed rushed. Tonight’s show will make it or break it for me. They only character with depth was the doctor. I hope thats addressed tonight.

I like the idea of linking the lost and fringe. That would be a nice conclusion to lost… hell, they already have an “other” in Fringe.

Oh, and I heard that Fox Moulder will be making an appearance towards the end of the season.

  43. Oh, and whats up with all the word art? I think J.J Abrams lets his mom make the graphics.

  44. Personally I think the whole sex appeal is with the long blonde hair. I dont think her face is all that pretty. But over all very good show. Shame that the guy she likes is a jerk after all she did for him.

  45. Great episode, but has anyone ever read The Cabinet of Curiosities by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child? If you have you’ll understand what I’m talking about. By the way, it’s a great read.

  46. Good idea but the music draws away from the show, also the words every time they go somewhere new is a little much. And I must say it’s a little to dramatic…. okay it sucks I had to walk away.. the only cool part was the commercials!

  47. Loved it, GREAT pilot. Great #2 episode. You will have a SERIOUS fan here if you ‘DON’T’ make this a downward spiral waste of time like Lost has become, especially if I devote my time to watching this series that has some GREAT potential. All the actors are well played and they mesh very well. Thumbs up so far! Don’t let me down and you will have a loyal fan for however long the series runs! I am hoping for a nice long 6-8 year run with this baby! Keep up the GREAT work!
    Best,
    John

  48. Good episode. That FBI agent need to settle down. She’s a kind of hyper and seems to be a weak character for Fringe.

  49. Its been a long time that a show surprised me .I really like show .
Humor, science, music, special effects, drama and yes I like the word art .It was enjoyable and I want more .The cast was cast well .I especially love the commercial second info …Greatest thing ever ..be back in 30 seconds…..lol … love it give that person a raise!!!..
Thank goodness for my DVR .I am a sucker for those cliffhangers.
    I know I’m hooked.

  50. i loved the show and am definitely hooked! i don’t watch lost (talk about hype!) and looking back at some of the xfiles that people would rave about found the series goes more on nostalgia than real value.
fringe on the other hand - whilst far from perfect is perfectly enjoyable -great cast, humor and some cool sci-fi…hope this stays around for a long time!

  51. That FBI Agent lady is HOT!!! Stop hating. I don’t think she cares anyway what you think while sitting on your butts judging people. I Tivo it every week. That bald headed guy is creepy. He shows up just when something is about to happen. I think he is called the Observer or something.

  52. Hello,
Does anyone else think that the black FBI agent in Fringe would be linked to Lost?
They play similar roles in each, and Fringe sciences would explain a lot about the island.
Penny father could somehow be linked to Massive Dynamic.
When the FBI agent was looking through the Massive Dynamic employees stuff (the butterfly episode) she looked at an airline ticket that said oceanic air on it. I know the airline in Lost was Oceanic Airlines, but it does serve a link.
They are both on a break now, and they return for season 5 in the same week in January, could all this be a coincidence or does anyone else think that I am on to something?
